We began working today on updating the way that BookMacster and Synkmark agents are triggered, to work better with browsers today.  After this work is done, among other things, we'll be able to defer exports to certain browsers until that browser is launched.  Then we'll make Opera one of those certain browsers.  That will resolve this issue.

I believe it happened more than once per day - if I closed it early, it would open again.   Right now I just don't have it configured to synchronize.

Hello again, Howard.

I hope we can work on this issue within the next few days.  Other issues have gotten in ahead of it.

As I understand the issue, it only occurs when you log in, once a day or whatever.  As a workaround, how about just quitting Opera when this occurs, once a day?  Or does it happen more than that?

I sure wish I could change the minds of the Opera developers about salting their checksum.   Because of this change they made in Opera 48, Opera is the only browser which we must always launch to sync.  It's really a pain.  I'm considering if we can maybe defer syncing with Opera until it is launched.

OK, I've entered a bug report to check out why Opera is not quitting during the first sync after a computer wakes from sleep or user logs in.  Your experience seems to point to this as the issue.  Thank you!

I booted up this morning, and Opera was open in the dock.   It still is there.

That is correct.   My computer starts every morning at 5:15, but this morning I didn't get to it until around 6.    Just now, looking at the dock, I saw Opera open and close.  I also saw Firefox open then close then open again and stay open.   I just closed it, and a couple of seconds later Opera opened for a couple of seconds and then closed.

Hello again, Howard.

Thank you for posting the data.  Did this happen at 05:20 AM?  If so, it looks like that process 478 laucnhed Opera to do a sync, and says it then told Opera to quit 11 seconds later, but for some reason Opera did not quit.  Is that correct?

Also, the low process ID number indicates that you may have just logged in a little before 05:20.  Is that correct?

Well, if I haven't seen it in a while, and you haven't seen it in a while, I'm going to attend to other feature requests and a few bug fixes  Smiley

Your Trouble Zip file did not arrive – this forum doesn't support that.  Trouble Zips are also usually too big to email.  Trouble Zips should be uploaded to our secure Dropbox.

If this does seem to happen again,

• Run Synkmark.
• Click in the menu: Synkmark > Logs.  It will open to the Messages tab.
• Into the Search field at the top, type launch Opera.  It will show you all of the times at which Synkmark recently launched Opera.
• Change the Search phrase to quit Opera.  It will show you all of the times at which Synkmark recently quit Opera.

(Yes, I know it would be wonderful to be able to do a regular expression search and see both at once, but we don't have that feature in there.)

Anyhow, if you mentally put the two together, you should see that each launch Opera is followed by a quit Opera.  It is a tricky process, and there may be a bug which causes it to fail once in a while, but I don't know of any.  If it does happen again, run another Trouble Zip, because I'll need to see what happened immediately prior, and of course your old Trouble Zip won't have that information.  Also please tell us as much as you can about the circumstances.

This may be resolved, I haven't seen it for a while.   I dragged my Synkmark Trouble.zip to this post, I don't know if it arrived.

UPDATE, a few hours later…

I've now tested a dozen or so cycles of changing bookmarks while Synkmark was quit.  Each time, the Synkmark background Agent launched Opera, waited 10 seconds, made the change, waited 10 more seconds, and then quit Opera.  I tried it with Opera at various positions in the Browsers list in Synkmark's Preferences.

But there are a lot of possible configurations, and possibly you've uncovered one that does not work.  I would like to have a look.  When you have a few minutes, please

• Run Synkmark
• Click in the menu: Help ▸ Trouble Zipper
• For Question X (Extra Extension Tests), answer "No"
• For Question B (Bookmarks and Documents), it probably does not matter in this case, but it might help to send those.
• "Dropbox" me the resulting .zip, as instructed.

Nope, that didn't work.   Opera started 15 minutes ago and is sitting in the dock open.
