We're adding those "multi-tagging tips" to the tooltip on the Tag Cloud, which is now going to be on the left.  I think that should help most people get the idea without having to read the Help.

select multiple bookmarks  (using shift select to select multiple lines)
then under : Selection - show inspector -

So in my mind I have opened one inspector for multiple items
(as you can in iTunes)

But if you look at the  inspector window it only shows one bookmark of the ones selected.
Thanks for the report.  That's a bug.  What it did until I retested it today was to say "Multiple Selection".  I'll check out the way iTunes works too.  That would be even better.

What I was trying to do is to add a tag to multiple URL's in one go.
There's a way to do that, but unfortunately it's not obvious.  Use the Content view, not the Inspector.  From the documentation sec. 1.1:

Make the same tag changes to many bookmarks:
  • If necessary, “tag” the first bookmark you want tagged by selecting it in the Content, then activate the Detail view, enter the tag, then hit return.
  • Activate the Content and, using ⌘-click or shift-click, select all of the other bookmarks you want to have this tag.
  • Drag the selected items from the Content to the desired Tag in the Tag Cloud.
Alternatively, if all of the target bookmarks currently have no tags, or have the same tags in the same order, you may select all of them in the Content and then add or remove tags as desired in the Detail View.
