Although I'm not sure if we fixed the issue you were seeing, BookMacster 1.12.5 (beta, for now) closes the 10-second window and has a couple other improvements in syncing integrity.

After fixing, we concocted a script which fires bookmarks at Safari and Chrome at random, once every ten seconds or so.  BookMacster was able to get 450 without missing any.  So I think this is fixed.  (After 450, Chrome started refusing to accept bookmarks, but that behavior is built into Chrome.)

Here's how to get it.  (Please read the note at the bottom.)

OK, there is about a 10-second window wherein, if you add a bookmark to Chrome just as BookMacster is about to export changes from Safari, that new bookmark in Chrome won't be noticed and therefore will be deleted during the export.  Happily, we're already calculating and storing hash values of imports and exports, and with one minor tweak it looks like we're now covering that 10-second window.  I'll be back when we're done testing to make sure that we haven't introduced any unintended consequences.

Thank you for your persistence, Sazun.  I have reproduced this issue by having an AppleScript fire a new bookmark every few seconds into Safari and Chrome.  About 25% of the Chrome additions are indeed missed.  We're working on it.

After studying Kristy's data, and noting that she had not restarted since the problem started, we suggested that she restart and then BookMacster Agents started working again.

Note that Kristy is using last year's system, Mac OS X 10.7.  I myself had this happen to me a couple times when I was using 10.7.  It is rare and I could never figure out how to reproduce it.  I reported it as a bug to Apple, and they later indicated to me that it has been fixed in Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.

Unfortunately, troubleshooting this issue as Kristy did is time-consuming, but if anyone using Mac OS X 10.8 is ever able to reproduce it, let us know and we'll work on Apple some more.

If you're using Mac OS X 10.7, restart and add it to your list of reasons why you'll upgrade to 10.8 one of these days.  Sorry!

* * *

Now, regarding Sazun's issue of BookMacster missing new bookmarks in Chrome, we tried to reproduce that by opening a couple dozen tabs and firing off new bookmarks while BookMacster was syncing.  But BookMacster didn't miss any.  We're working on scripting a more stressful test.

If Pause+Resume doesn't fix the problem, please click in BookMacster's menu: Help ▸ Trouble Zipper and click through the process of sending us some data.  We'll sort through it and figure out what's going on.

Unfortunately, that didn't work.  I've sent an e-mail with the zip.

Another reason that I've found for BookMacster not sorting and syncing is if in your Settings/Clients configuration you have included more browsers than are actually on your Mac or in my case I had deleted a browser and it remained in the Clients list of browsers; BookMacster will not complete sorting or syncing until you have removed the nonexistent browser in the Clients list lineup.

But no changes from Camino are detected (no entries in log). The major problem here is that new bookmarks created in Camino are deleted when a change in Firefox trigger a sync.
This is because, sadly, Camino does not provide any method for BookMacster to access its bookmarks while it is running.  Only Safari, Firefox, and Chrome do this.  When you are done editing bookmarks in Camino, you must quit Camino to have changes imported to BookMacster.  A slight consolation is the fact that the changes are synced immediately (because we know that no further changes are coming).

I'll do some more testing and see if I can reproduce this.  I presume that a rapid-fire adding of bookmarks would be most stressful.

Hi. I upgraded to new version and started from scratch,  deleting old bookmarkshelf documents and creating new ones. As before I have made two documents: one for syncing Chrome and Safari (my intented application) and one for syncing Camino and Firefox for testing purposes.

In the Camino-Firefox case, all changes from Firefox are detected and copied to Camino. But no changes from Camino are detected (no entries in log). The major problem here is that new bookmarks created in Camino are deleted when a change in Firefox trigger a sync.

In the Chrome-Safari case, things work better, and MOST of the changes in bookmarks are detected in the two browsers. But some times adding a bookmark in Chrome is not correctly detected (I think this corresponds to a log entry telling "Ignoring spurious changes from Chrome"). Again, if after the missed addition of new Chrome Bookmarks, another bookmark is added in Safari, that triggers a sync that DELETES the new bookmarks in Chrome.

This a big concern for me. A missed sync is not a big problem if a posterior one correctly syncs the browsers bookmarks. I have been doing regular Import All and Export All from BookMacster and never losing one. But now I am seeing bookmarks deleted because they are not detected when being added in first place. I hope this can be sorted. Thanks in advance for your help.

tried adding a new bookmark.  It's still not showing up in the log.
OK, Kristy.  Click the Sync button in your Bookmarkshelf document to Pause syncing, then click it again to Resume syncing.  A warning will advise  you to Export, but since you didn't change any bookmarks between those two clicks, click It's OK.

What you have done will destroy and then re-create your Agents.  It shouldn't be necessary, but we're dealing with a mystery here.  I just retested adding a bookmark to Firefox, on two computers, running Mac OS X 10.7 and 10.8, being careful this time to download the same BookMacster 1.12.5 that you did.  In both cases, the agent was staged and did its sync thing 5 minutes later, as expected.

If Pause+Resume doesn't fix the problem, please click in BookMacster's menu: Help ▸ Trouble Zipper and click through the process of sending us some data.  We'll sort through it and figure out what's going on.

Thanks again, Kristy.  I think the problem was that BookMacster 1.12.4 was shipped for a little while with a few pieces missing.  Please update to BookMacster 1.12.5 which we just published.  Sazun, this goes for you too, and anyone else with this issue.

To get BookMacster 1.12.5, launch BookMacster and click in the menu: BookMacsterCheck for Update.

Thanks again y'all for the feedback.  Let us know if you have any more trouble.

Hi. Same problem here. The plists are created and the agents are loaded but there are no entries in the log after adding bookmarks. I have tried this with Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Camino (also checked Firefox Extension is active).

I watched the video, followed the instructions and confirmed the 4 agents are loaded.  I added a new bookmark to Firefox and then refreshed the log....there are no entries for the action.
Thank you, Kristy.  I just re-tested again, changing a bookmark in Firefox, and it works for me.  But our video omitted an additional piece for Firefox, which is our Firefox Extension.  Please activate Firefox, click in the menu: ToolsAdd-Ons, then in the left sidebar click the Extensions tab (the green jigsaw puzzle piece).  It should indicate that Sheep Systems Firefox Extension is installed, its version number should be 288 (or later, for those reading this in the future), and the Disable button should be visible, meaning that the extension is enabled

Does yours look like that?
