Spaceman, the program code that was causing the problem looks like it has been in BookMacster since early in 2013, and it should have caused the problem in any version of Mac OS X.  However, as another developer explained to me, switching processes on Mac OS X between background and foreground has always been, quothing Shakespaere, an  "eye of newt kind of a thing".  Apple could have had in some extra ingredient that cancelled out our mistake until 10.9.  No one will ever know for sure.

Anyhow, BookMacster 1.19.7 has the issue fixed.  Get it, as usual, by activating BookMacster and clicking in the menu: BookMacster > Check for Update.

Jerry,

Thanks. Just a bit more info. I got to work today and tried it on my MacBook Pro running 10.7 Lion and do not have the same problem.

So, it could be a 10.9 only issue. However, I do have a couple of menu items on my 10.9 machine that I don't have on my 10.7 machine, so that may also play into it.

Let me know if you need me to do some additional testing.

Thank you, Spaceman.  Yes, we tested background operation but not cycling on and off like that.  We'll get on it.  I got the video too.

I noticed an issue with the latest version, 1.19.6. It could have occurred with one of the other recent releases but I'm not sure.

I tend to use BookMacster in "Background" mode. Today, I noticed that when I chose "Show BookMacster"and then chose "Background BookMacster" from the BookMacster Menu, the following happened:

Icon disappeared from Menu Bar but leaves a space in the menu bar (see attached 'Missing Icon')


The application still shows as running in Activity Monitor.

I can also switch between my virtual screens and the icon will briefly show up. (See attached zipped movie).

The only way to gain access to BookMacster again (or to see the icon) is to either Log-out or restart the machine.

So, it appears that BookMacster is going a little too far in the background  Wink

Running 10.9 Maverics.
