Thank you, SteaG.  Interesting.  Did you first try it with the new default value of 3.0 seconds before changing it to 10 seconds?

I mean, I wonder how much "margin" you have.  Would 5 seconds work?

Sorry for the very late reply, I've been extremely busy lately.

I've just tested the command with 10 seconds, and it seems to work perfectly.

Thank you !

BookMacster 1.20, which is now available on our alpha channel, has increased the timeout which which SteaG appears to have been hitting, from 0.5 seconds to 3.0 seconds.  That should probably solve this problem.

Just in case it does not, users may increase it further by changing a hidden preference with a command in Terminal.app.

To read the current value,

defaults read com.sheepsystems.BookMacster readStyle2TxTimeout

If it says that the pair does not exist, this means that the default value of 3.0 will be used.

To change the value to, for example, 10 seconds, first quit BookMacster if it is running, and then enter

defaults write com.sheepsystems.BookMacster readStyle2TxTimeout 10

To remove it, effective restoring the default value, first quit BookMacster if it is running, and then enter

defaults delete com.sheepsystems.BookMacster readStyle2TxTimeout

Again, all of this requires BookMacster 1.20 or later to have any effect.

Please let us know if you find any of this to be effective because, again, even the old value of 0.5 works fine on the Macs in our lab.

Hello, SteaG.

Thank you for your support.  I want to make sure we fix the correct issue..

Tell me if you are signed in to Google, and have it syncing your Chrome bookmarks to other devices.  If you're not sure,

• Launch Google Chrome.
• Click in the menu: Chrome > Preferences
• In the left side bar, click Settings.
• Does it indicate that you are "signed in" to Google?
• If so, click the Advanced sync settings button.
• Is the Bookmarks checkbox switched on?

Indeed, if you are syncing bookmarks with Google's Sign In, BookMacster must launch Chrome if it is not running, prior to any export.  If it turns out that you are, please do this

• Quit Google Chrome if it is running.
• Launch BookMacster and open your document.
• Update a bookmark somehow.  Maybe rename it or move it a little.
• Click in the menu: File > Export.

BookMacster will launch Chrome, wait 10  6 [corrected 2013-12-15] seconds, then try to export.  If I understand the problem correctly, this should evoke the same error that you see during syncs.  When you see it, click the button in the lower left corner that has the life-preserver icon in it.  It will create an email message to us, containing much data about the error.  Add the answers I asked for above and send to us.

Again assuming I'm correct about what's going on, there are several other ways, besides exporting manually after launching Chrome.  One is, if you are not syncing to Chrome on other devices, either sign out, or at least switch off that Advanced sync settings > Bookmarks checkbox.  Other workarounds are explained in this section from BookMacster Help.

I wish Google provided a way for us to get in to Chrome's bookmarks in the cloud without through the Chrome browser app.  Unfortunately, the Chrome team has been following Apple's lead lately and walling things off.

Hello,

BookMacster is great, it's probably the most reliable option I've ever seen to sync my bookmarks across several browsers. So, really, thank you very much.

However, I always have the very same issue: it's the delay BookMacster expects Chrome to launch and be ready. Chrome isn't my main browser (Safari is), but it has quite a lot of add ons, and it takes some time to be fully ready. So at every changes, BookMacster bugs me with a popup window, and I end up manually syncing the browser in BookMacster. To be honest, that's not very handy. (I use BookMacster 1.19.8)

So, please, could you give more time to Chrome to be ready? Or at least, as you're not afraid with giving your users lots of options, add an option to set that delay in the Preferences window?

Thank you in advance!
