Thanks, Jerry. Yes, I think "half way" will work. I think most often I will want to prevent bookmarks Smarky from exporting and to routinely import new Safari bookmarks into Smarky.

Smarky is an interesting product. I imagine at some point, at least for my own purposes, all will become relatively clear. Right now it's very murky--and that's a comment about me, not about Smarky.

DIFFERENT BOOKMARKS IN SAFARI vs. SMARKY

All four of our apps, including Smarky, offer this half way, which may be enough.  You can have bookmarks in Smarky but not in Safari by setting an Export Exclusion for Safari on an enclosing folder(s).  You see in the attached screenshot, I’ve set an Export Exclusion on the folder named “A-AM”.  You do this in the Inspector panel.  More information on Export Exclusions is in sec. 4.22 of the Help Book.

The other half would be Import Exclusions.  I suppose such a feature would be possible, but we don’t have it.  I suppose that, in preferences maybe you could designate a short string of text, for example, “!!!”, and any bookmark with “!!!” in the name would not be imported.  If anyone ever requests such a feature, we’ll think about it.

SYNCING OFF vs. PAUSED

In Smarky and Synkmark, you cannot turn syncing off as you can in BookMacster, but paused is effectively off and is just as good.  You'll get a big warning with an opportunity to cancel if you'd ever switch syncing on accidentally.

Syncing with Safari

Is it possible to maintain different bookmark lists in Smarky and Safari, i.e., to have syncing only between some of the folders in Smarky and Safari?

Again, my preference until I know my way around Smarky better is to update Smarky and Safari manually. I assume if syncing is paused that is sufficient. If there is a way to turn syncing off, I'd prefer that at this time.
