I'm voting for "random".  I've tested that extension for all of the years that Chrome has had that Allow in incognito checkbox, and have never used it.  I don't see any indication in Chrome's documentation that it would make any difference.  Just to make sure, I tried exporting from BookMacster to Chrome while Chrome was running with only one window, an Incognito Window, open.  It worked.

Like I said - could be random, but it did work after this box was checked.

Hello, Clyde.

Thank you for the post.  I shall need to think about how switching on Allow in incognito for the BookMacster Sync Chrome extension could affect its operation.   Off the top of my head, I can't think of any reason.

If this happens again, in BookMacster, click in the menu: BookMacster > Manage Browser Add-Ons.  In there you can Test, Uninstall and (re)Install the extension.

I received this error (below) this morning after seemingly "nothing changed" in OS, versions, etc.
The error came when simply trying to "Import from all (Chrome)"
All I ever do is import / export manually from Chrome.  Very simple scenario.

To attempt to rectify/clear the error/get my bookmarks to import  I did all kinds of handstands including:

  • Quit apps (BookMacster, Chrome)
  • Restart
  • Delete my entire bookmarkshelf and attempt to import to a fresh copy
  • Update Chrome version (nowVersion 46.0.2490.71 (64-bit))

Result:  Fail (same message) / no change.

Then I ticked the box within Chrome Extensions, "Allow in Incognito"

... now it works. I am able to import/export - business as usual.

Hope this helps someone (or perhaps it's random?)

Asking client for bookmarks failed.

Suggestion to Fix this Error:
•  Hit command+option+esc (⌥⌘esc).  A list will appear.
•  If Chrome is listed, quit it.
•  If it won't quit, select it in the list and click 'Force Quit'.
