Hello again, yowwoy.

What you are describing today, the Chrome extension not responding, is a different problem.  To reduce frustration, don't uninstall/reinstall BookMacster any more.  We have a tool in BookMacster which provides a lot of troubleshooting for just a couple minutes of work.  To use it,

• Run BookMacster.
• Click in the menu: Help > Trouble Zipper.

Trouble Zipper will ask a few questions about what you want to include.

• For Question B (Bookmarks), we probably don't need those, but if you don't mind, click Include Bookmarks and then select Chrome.
• For Question L (Sync Logs), it might be helpful to include those.
• For Question F (Files), it would be helpful to click "Search" and then include your BookMacster.bkmslf file

• Send me the resulting .zip as instructed.

Thank you for the note. It worked again for a while, with the correct files as you noted, - and then I started to get the delay errors in the log. So I completely uninstalled and reinstalled Bookmacster - through the manage browser extensions pane. It installs and tests fine for Firefox. After installing the Chrome extension, it initially shows installed (install button greyed out) - but wit fails the test with the error "no response from Chrome", and the install button becomes active again - but when I look at the Chrome extensions manager, it show the extension clearly installed.

I have removed and reinstalled three times now - with the same result.

I have nothing on my machine that touches bookmarks or cookies. And nothing has changed on my machine, apart from upgrade from vers 1 to 2.

Been troubleshooting this for several hours now, and it is getting frustrating. Any thoughts?

Hello again, yowwoy.

When BookMacster launches, it does some housekeeping chores.  One of these chores is to verify that there are still launchd agents installed in OS X corresponding to the Agents required for your Syncing configuration.  Those three log entries that begin with

      Add|updated launchd com.sheepsystems...

indicate that BookMacster found three of these agents, probably the ones which watch your Chrome, Firefox and Safari bookmarks, to be missing.  And it reinstalled them.

I wonder if you are possibly running some utility which thinks its' doing a good deed by periodically knocking out launchd agents it doesn't like.  Each one is represented by a file.  To see your launchd agent files

• Activate Finder.
• Click in the menu: Go > Go to folder….  A small text field will appear in a sheet.
• Copy and paste in this path into the text field:
      ~/Library/LaunchAgents
• Click Go.

You should see 3-5 files in there whose name begins with

      com.sheepsystems.BookMacster...

But, except when sync operations are pending, none of them should have doSoon or standby near the end of their names.  If they do, this may indicate an agent which has "hung".  This possibility is also indicated by the orphaned log entry Job already staged….  BookMacster should automatically clear out "hung" agents after, I think, a few hours.

Please do one or more of these:

• Consider, as I said above, if you've recently installed anything which might be messing with your launchd agents
• "Start over" by switching off Syncing in BookMacster.  All of BookMacster's launchd files should instantly disappear.  Then, switch Syncing back on.  Three to five BookMacster launchd files should reappear.  Keep an eye on that launchd folder for a couple days, and see if anything appears or disappears.  Additional files, with doSoon or standby in their names, will come and go for a few minutes when bookmarks are changed, but the original 3-5 files, should not disappear.  They may disappear momentarily during syncing but should reappear within a few seconds.
• Make a .zip archive of that Launch Agents folder and email to us if you think I should have a look at it.

I'm thinking that you actually added that bookmark at 17:39:15, not 17:38:15.  Because there is a 10 second delay built into our Chrome extension, this should have caused Worker process 1457 to launch 10 seconds later, at 17:39:26, as it did. 

After that, things started going wrong.  I am studying it and shall be back soon.

Thanks for the response. Sync is set of 0-2 minutes. This time I started a new clean bookshelf. removed and reinstalled browser plugins - verified they worked. Closed Bookmacster. Added a bookmark in Chrome at 17:38:15 and waited 10 minutes. No bookmark showed up in browsers. The log follows. Appreciate the help.

Hello, yowwoy.

Thank you for posting.  Maybe part of the issue is that you are trying too hard.  Your screenshot indicates that BookMacster was running when a bookmarks change was detected.  When that happens, you see that warning, which tells you that the import was being skipped, and if you want whatever changed, you must click File > Import manually.  This is changed in version 2.  In version 1, it would give you the option to "Perform Now" or something like that.  But we removed that because it was conceptually too complicated.  After years of trying to get it to work, we were still finding rare pathological cases which resulted in unexpected behavior.

I mean, maybe it needs more time.  I know you said you waited two minutes after adding a bookmark before launching BookMacster.  Two minutes is enough if, in BookMacster's Preferences > Syncing, you have the minutes to wait set to 0-2.  But it is not enough if you have the default setting, which is more.

That Job already staged entry in the log is a possible indication of trouble.  When you scroll up, there should be another job indicated, and it should run minutes later.  If not, something is wrong.

Let us know what you find.

Im a long time and quite satisfied user of Bookmacster. Normally running Bookmacster without any issues. Noticed a couple days ago bookmarks are not syncing properly - Chrome, Safari and Firefox. Yesterday I tried to troubleshoot - also upgraded to version 2 as well. I entirely deleted the bookshelf several times, including manual delete  of all files and folders inside user/library/bookmacster - and entirely rebuilt the bookshelf. I also did the following test (this basic pattern is exactly what I found over several tests):

at 15:07:01 added bookmark to Chrome
waited 2 minutes
opened Bookmacster
the bookmark not found in the content tab
attached error message pops up every time (for chrome, safari and firefox)

copied below see log messages:
