Error due to conflict with Parallels

If one of our apps detects that you are using Firefox Sync, unless you override, it will probably want to launch Firefox prior to an export.  To do this, it asks Mac OS X Where is Firefox?, and some users of the Parallels Desktop to run Microsoft Windows have found that Mac OS X replies with the path to the Windows version of Firefox, which will result in an error when BookMacster tries to launch it.

Versions 1.21 or later of our apps will try to silently work around this error by detecting when it occurs and instead trying to launch the usual Mac installation of Firefox, which you should have at /Applications/Firefox.app.

We think that this problem may be caused by the Shared Applications feature of Parallels.  So, if that doesn’t work, try this…

• Launch Parallels Desktop.
• Click in the menu: Window > Virtual Machine Directory (List).
• Perform a secondary click (right-click) on Virtual Machine.
• In the Contextual Menu that appears, click: Configure.
• Pick from the list: Features > Shared Applications.
• Find the checkbox titled Share Windows Applications with Mac OS X.
• Switch it off.
• Click button: OK.

Although we don’t use Parallels, it seems to us that this shared applications feature  might cause problems with other apps too, and switching it off might be a good idea in general.  The system used by OS X to determine which app should open a file is complicated and troublesome enough, without throwing Windows apps into the mix.

This issue is still being investigated.  Please report any failure (or success!) using this method using the support form on the right, or our forum if you prefer.
