Ok, thanks Jerry.  Yep, I'm heading to bed also, thanks for looking at the file.

Got your zip file.  Unzipped it.  Yup, it's BookMacster 1.1.19.  Doubleclicked it.  Launched.  Clicked Preferences.  Works perfectly for me.  Items in toolbar are:

           General, Updates, Adding, Sorting, Appearance

We'll sleep on it.

Thanks,

I don't see how this could not work, then.  That 61 KB PrefsWindow.nib dated September 22 is the new one that has the Updates item added to the toolbar.  Please try it by navigating out from Resources, back out to Contents, back out to BookMacster.app, and doubleclick that BookMacster.app.  Then in the menu click Preferences.

If you don't see that Updates item in the toolbar as in the screenshot in my prior post here, then please zip up that whole BookMacster.app and send it to me.  To "zip" a file or folder, first click on it with a "secondary click".  A "secondary click" means either your secondary mouse button, usually the right button, or else your primary/left button while holding down the 'control' key on the keyboard.  Using either method, a "contextual menu" will appear.  In the contextual menu, click "Compress <whatever>".  Watch carefully and a new file with name ending in ".zip" will appear in the current folder.

And I guess I should ask, what version of Mac OS do you have there?

Ok Jerry, I checked as advised.  All files show as in your illustration.  Dates and times modified are exactly the same.

The prefsUpdates.tif file is 20KB

The PrefsWindow.nib file is 61KB.

OK, Doug.  Sorry, it took me 24 hours to suspend my disbelief on this one.  Let's take a stab at it in the middle.

Please select your BookMacster app in Finder, do a secondary click ("right-click" or "control-click"), and click Show Package Contents.  Inside there, open Contents.  Inside there, open Resources.  In the View menu, click as List and arrange so you can see filenames, sizes and dates.  Scroll down to the names beginning in P.  You should see something like this:

In particular, note that all files are dated September 22 at 17:34 or 17:35 (that's 5:35 PM).  Not sure if it adjusts for time zone; you might be an hour different.  Also, note that there is a file named prefsUpdates.tif and that the size of PrefsWindow.nib is 61 KB.

What do you see?

No sir, I do not.  The only buttons I see are 'General', 'Adding', 'Sorting', and 'Appearance'.  Four buttons total in 'Preferences'.

I've double checked the version and it is 1.1.19 and have also downloaded and installed a second time thinking perhaps something happened during the first download.

Sorry Jerry, "Odd thing" would have been much more appropriate.

Well, I hope the rest of the day is more humorous.  Do you even have the "Updates" tool in the toolbar in Preferences?  Here's what it looks like for me…

Funny thing, I've downloaded and I'm using version 1.1.19 but still don't have an option in 'Preferences' to get beta versions in the future.

You did have a beta version in the past Doug, but that was when all versions were beta versions.  The feature to get beta versions in Preferences ▸ Updates was not added until 1.1.something.

So, anyhow if you have 1.0.5 or earlier and want to update to 1.1.x now, you need to download it manually from here:

http://sheepsystems.com/bookmacster/beta/BookMacster.zip

Then you can set that preference to get beta versions in the future.

Jerry,
When I check for updates I am told I'm running the latest version, 1.0.5.  In 'Preferences', I don't have an 'Updates' tab so can't check the 'Beta' option.  I'm pretty sure I was running the beta version in the past.
