This issue is fixed in BookMacster  1.5.7 Beta which was just published.

To update to the Beta version, launch BookMacster and follow these instructions:

Looks like we forgot to indicate that in the Update News.  Anyhow, you control what level of updates you get in Preferences ▸ Updates.

I agree, I have not seen any detrimental affects related to this issue.

I do have one question,  you mention an 'alpha release'. I did not realize that 1.5.6 was an alpha release. The 'About' window does not indicate that it is an alpha release. Is ther

Thank you, Spaceman.  Another user reported that yesterday.  It's a bug in 1.5.6 that has been fixed for the next version, 1.5.7.  It happens under certain conditions which we didn't test.  Stuff like that sometimes happens in an alpha release.

Anyhow, it turns out to be harmless.  Just ignore it.

I noticed an odd but minor behavior after updating to 1.5.6. Upon updating and opening a bookmarkshelf, it would continue to show 'Updating bookmark shelf' at the bottom of the bookmarkshelf window and continue to show the 'barber shop' progress bar. The 'updating' message and barber shop indicator would resume after both a restart of the application as well as of the computer.

What I was able to do that stopped the 'updating' was to select 'save as' and the click the 'cancel' button in the resulting window.

This behavior occurred on two different computers with multiple bookmarkshelf files.
