This issue has been fixed in BookMacster 1.19.9 which was published last week.  See Preferences > Appearance.  Thanks again, Rob.

I've noticed that some apps (like Dropbox) give the user the option of a black & white menu bar icon to go with the monochrome theme of later versions of Mac OS.

Something you might consider (personally I like the color).
