The behavior has been fixed in BookMacster 1.22.19, which is now available to users on the Beta or Alpha update channel.  Here's how to get it.

I can't really explain what happened.  OS X can place apps into various foreground and background states.  However, this state wherein the menu shows, and the windows are open, but don't show on the screen does not make any sense.  We fiddled with it until it behaved properly.  I plan to follow up by submitting the old version as a technical support incident to Apple – maybe they can explain it.

Smarky 1.22.19, Synkmark 1.22.19, and Markster 1.22.19 will be similarly available within a half hour.

Hello, Rich.

I have confirmed the behavior to be exactly as you have described it.  Indeed, it is weird.  Anyhow, we'll fix it; it will certainly require an update of BookMacster (and the other three apps).  I'll post here when the fix is available.

OK, now that this is mostly sorted out, here's a slightly annoying new behavior for you in version 1.22.17: "add and inspect" works from the Chrome widget, but it adds the bookmark and pulls the inspection window open, I see the Bookmacster GUI flash very briefly in front of Chrome, and then it goes to the back hidden *behind* the Chrome window (even though the menu bar says Bookmacster is the active application) - I then have to command-tab twice; once to bring Chrome back as the front app, then again to bring Bookmacster to the front - *then* I can see the Bookmacster GUI.

Strange, huh?

OK, re-installed Bookmacster - all good, pref window is back (wonder how that happened?).

Thanks again!

Possibly the Preferences window resource inside your BookMacster application package.  Seriously.

Anyhow, don't bother with it.  Revisit our Alpha/Beta page, scroll down to the bottom, and now you'll see a section titled To download an alpha or beta directly.  Trash your existing BookMacster, and replace it with the one you get by downloading and unzipping the BookMacster Beta.

As always, thank you for trying the Beta Smiley

You know, I thought I'd try out the beta, and I realize that I don't have an "update" tab in my preferences so there's no way to have it search for beta updates.  In fact, nothing at all happens when I select the "preferences" menu item (command-",").

What am I missing?

thanks,
rich

Great - thanks for checking!  I'll probably wait for an actual release version, and live with it 'til then.

best,
rich

I've reproduced the problem.  Indeed, it was a bug, introduced when we replaced our old NPAPI Plugin for the Chrome-ish browsers with the newer (and nicer) technology now recommended and soon to be required by Google.

This bug was introduced a few weeks ago, in Markster 1.22.9 and BookMacster 1.22.9.  It is now fixed in version 1.22.14  We'll publish versions 1.22.14 on the Beta channel within, oh, 24 hours.

Thanks again for the report, Rich.

Hello, Rich.  I'll check it out.  What version of BookMacster do you have there?

Chrome widget not adding and inspecting correctly?

Hi there - somewhere in a recent update something odd happened; Used to be when I added a bookmark with the widget in Chrome  (Version 36.0.1985.125), it "added and inspected", but now, when I add a bookmark in Chrome, it no longer adds and inspects; it just adds the bookmark to my default location and I have to manually open the inspector to modify it.  I've checked the option key behavior in prefs and it's set correctly.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!
