Oh, I can probably explain that.  Google also tightened up the requirements in a different, totally unrelated way: an old access method called "NPAPI" was no longer going to be allowed.  They announced that this was coming a year or two ago, we fixed it a year or so ago, and then a few months ago, Google pushed an update that disabled any extension still using NPAPI.

It looks like my Bookmacster installation was out-of-date. Updating Bookmacster then updating the chrome extension did the trick. I've got no idea why I just started seeing these prompts.

Thanks for your help.

Hello, geoffb.

Sorry it took three days to reply.  We've been experimenting with spam filters and maybe missed the notification.

I've read that this change happened with Chrome 35, over a year ago, and also that it only affects production builds, which is, today Chrome 43.  However, I just updated to Chrome 44, relaunched Chrome, and my Sheep Systems extensions are still enabled.  In the Extension window, there is a little label under them which says "Not from Chrome Web Store".  But they are still enabled.

The reason why they should work, and, it seems to me, do work, is that our extensions are installed as "External Extensions:, in accordance with this Google publication.  So they should work fine for you, as they do for me.

??

bookmacster sync extension disabled on chrome

Hi,

I'm using google chrome (dev channel) Version 45.0.2454.15 dev (64-bit). When I launched it after the most recent update, it informed me that the bookmacster sync extension had been disabled. It appears that they are now requiring that all extensions come from the chrome web store. Can the bookmacster sync extension for chrome be made available through that channel? (Or is there some alternate way of enabling it again?)

Thanks for any insight.
