Sorry for the delay in replying; still playing with spam filters.

I'm not sure what you mean by Google Bookmarks being "open".  Until a few years ago, BookMacster was able to recognize whether or not you were signed in to a certain Google account, but then Google broke that capability, and now BookMacster presents a dialog asking you to verify that you are correctly signed in before performing any import or export with Google Bookmarks.  But that is definitely not new with El Capitan.

Is that what you mean by "google bookmarks as open"?

BM will not recognize google bookmarks as open, even when it is in Safari, just updated to El Capitan.
