Jerry,

Sorry for the delay in responding. As you figured, the machine I was trying to run BookMacster on is running Yosemite. Of my 4 Macs, it is the only hold out. <of course>

I am happy to report that I am now successfully up and running! And you will be happy to know that I am now a paying customer. Thanks for the great support and app.

Bob

OK, we've now published BookMacster 2.0.5 (with Synkmark 2.0.5 to follow in a few minutes) which fixes this issue of buttons not appearing in some alert sheets when running, I think, in last year's OS X 10.10 Yosemite.  All I can say for sure is that this is some very weird combination of bugs between us and OS X which pocketed the eight-ball.

You can get 2.0.5 using Check for Update, same as you got 2.0.4.

Thanks for the report and the screenshot, NeoDoc.  I may not have believed you had I not seen it!

OK, I've reproduced the problem on a Mac running OS X 10.10.2.  Are you still using Yosemite, Doc?

Hello again, Doc.

Well, that is so weird.  It works fine for me.  And I'm looking at the line in the program which says to add the "OK" and "Help" buttons!  I shall go try on another Mac accont.

In the meantime, since all the missing "OK" does is open a web page in Chrome, you can work around the problem by visiting this web page, but you must do that from Chrome.

If Chrome is not your default browser, perform a secondary (right) click on that link.  A contextual menu will appear.  Click Copy link, then activate Chrome and paste into Chrome's address bar.  Hit return, and then after it shows you our extension, click the blue Add to Chrome button.

Not sure if I should start another thread, but I did download the new beta to give it a try. I did try to install the new Chrome plug-in but seem to get stuck at this screen (attached screenshot) which isn't showing me an "OK" button to push.

Thank you for your patience.  BookMacster 2.0.4, which will prompt you to download our Chrome extension from the Chrome Web Store and work with it, is now available on the beta channel.

Here is how to get it.

Sorry, we're still seeing too many interesting behaviors in the lab here with the next version of BookMacster to let it go public yet.

BookMacster with the new Chrome extension was all ready to go, but then we found a bug in final testing that is going to take at least another day to fix.

Sorry!  Just a progress report…

The bug we found just now is in some unrelated long-term remodeling that we we working on in the days prior to this Chrome issue arising.

We've got our two extensions in the Chrome Web Store now.  But don't look for them because

• They are "unlisted" (only available if you have the link which BookMacster will provide).
• They will not work with current versions of BookMacster.

I hope to be back with better news tomorrow.

Our plans are to have a fix on the beta channel by 2015-11-23 06:00 UTC.  That's Sunday/Monday depending on your time zone.

Sadly, you win that bet. I was able to find the file, and install it, and it was enabled by default. However, when I went to test it, Chrome quit and restarted with the extension disabled message...

<sigh>

Yes, I found that tidbit too, so I switched off Developer Mode, uninstalled the old extension the old way, reinstalled it the old way, and it still worked fine.  And then I did find a later blog post stating that they imposed the Web Store restriction on OS X in July.  None of this makes any sense, but if you know how to get the .crx package out of BookMacster's package and give it a try, it's in BookMacster.app/Contents/Resources/BookMacsterSync.crx.  I'll bet that it does not work.

Thanks Jerry for the quick reply. It is annoying that this can't work with the existing system, as I did like how seamless the installation process was.

In my web searching, I did see that using Chrome in developer mode, and manually installing the crx file might work. Is the extension available for download so I can try it? That wouldn't be a elegant long-term solution, but might work in the short term.

I've been able to upload our extensions to the Chrome Web Store.  To my amazement there appears to be no human approval process.  But unfortunately, the store assigns them a new arbitrary ID (identifier) which is different than the ID which was assigned when we packaged them here.  BookMacster (and Synkmark and Markster) communicate with the extension using this ID, so the store-installed versions don't work with the current versions of BookMacster, Synkmark and Markster.

We're going to have to update our apps to instruct people to go to the Chrome Web Store to get the extensions.  Very sad because the existing install process was completely invisible to the user.  The updates will also, of course, have the new IDs.

I still can't figure out why the current, non-Chrome-store extension still works for me, with the bleeding-edge alpha version of Chrome, and apparently, other users.  But I'm not even going to try.

Thank you for the follow-up, NeoDoc.

I've been working on this.  But it looks like it is not going to be done today.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Here is the URL from the "Learn More" link on the notification.
https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/2811969?p=ui_remove_non_cws_extensions&...

I didn't find it very helpful, meaning they did not suggest how to fix it. Well, other than having you upload it to the Chrome Web Store.
