Hello, Loren.

First of all, let me say that the sound effects are off by default.  If you are hearing sounds, that is because, at some point in the past, you must have opened the Preferences in BookMacster, Synkmark or Smarky and switched some checkoxes on.

Since most people don't want the sounds, these checkboxes are hidden rather deeply.  To get there…

• Launch BookMacster, Synkmark or Smarky.
• In the main menu, under the application name, click : Preferences.
• Click the tab Syncing.
• At the bottom of the Syncing tab, click Notifications….  A sheet will appear.

And there you will see the answer to your questions.  Since it is rather difficult to describe the sounds in text, you see there are five "demo" buttons which will play the sound if you have the adjacent Play Sound checkbox switched on.

Just for fun, I can tell you that the Agent has staged a sync, to begin soon sound is the sound of a mechanical spring-operated clock being wound up, and the Agent has started a sync sound is that of a sewing machine.  These sounds were provided by Sound Jay.  A Help button near the bottom of that sheet will open the page in the Help Book which explains how you can use your own custom sounds instead.

And, of course, if you no longer want the sounds and/or notifications, switch the appropriate checkboxe(s) in there OFF.
