The issue indeed was due to hitting the Safe Sync Limit.  I followed the recommendation and did the housecleaning in Syncmark which I didn't previously understand/appreciate.

Everything is syncing as expected again in all three browsers.

Thank you for the assistance!

The reason why you are not seeing notifications of the errors is that BkmxNotifier-A is disabled.  A is for important notifications only, and should be set to Alerts.  B shows a notification whenever a sync operation begins and then again when it ends.  B should only be enabled if you are troubleshooting or like a lot of notifications.

The Errors 103011 are probably the reason for the trouble.  By default, the Safe Sync Limit is set to 25.  The folder you are attempting to delete probably contains 50 items.  The 51st item would be the folder itself.

Our recommended workflow to avoid this problem is to always do major bookmarks housecleaning like that in Synkmark.  In this case – launch Synkmark, delete that folder, then quit Synkmark and re-enable syncing.  This workflow best prevents syncing conflicts which could occur if you accidentatally make changes in a browser while Synkmark is syncing.

The other alternative to avoid this problem is to set the Safe Sync Limit to a number higher than 25.  100 would work in this particular case, but someday you may decide to do more.  That's why this is not recommended.

Here is a more detailed post on this topic.

Hello,

Thanks for the info.  I looked in the Notification settings and in Application Notifications there are two items listed - BkmxNotifier-A and BkmxNotifier-B.  Not sure if there are supposed to be two but both are turned off.

I looked in Logs > Errors and there are several listings for:

"Snkmk Error 214752 Could not parse system response"

and several named:

"Snkmk Error 103011 An Import operation was aborted because it would have caused 0 items to be added to, 1 items to updated in, and 51 items to be deleted from Synkmark."

The number to be deleted varies, but the other values are all 0 for added and 1 for updated.

Not sure if the double listing for the Notifier or the Error messages provides any clues.

Some error occurrences can pause syncing.  By default, these errors should display a dialog in the macOS Notification Center (upper right corner of screen).  Possibly Synkmark is not allowed to display notifications (main menu  > System Settings > Notifications > Application Notifications), or you have activated Do Not Disturb , or maybe this is just macOS Notification Center being macOS Notification Center and falling asleep on the job.

Please run Synkmark and click in the main menu: Synkmark > Logs.  The click the Errors tab and look at the history of errors by using the popup menu.

I checked in Synkmark > Preferences > Syncing and the delay is set to 60 seconds.  I also confirmed that all three browsers are selected for Import and Export.

I closed Synkmark and as a test, I deleted a browser folder that had two bookmarks, waited for 5 minutes and checked the other browsers.  The changes did not appear in Firefox or Chrome.

I then opened Synkmark and noticed that Syncing was paused (red exclamation point).  The strange thing is before I closed Synkmark, the sync icon was yellow.

So once I enabled syncing which then pushed the deleted bookmark folder and its contents back into Safari.  I again closed Synkmark making sure the sync icon was yellow, deleted the bookmark folder and contents in Safari and waited 5 minutes.  I again checked in Firefox and Chrome and they both still had the book folder and contents.

When I opened Synkmark again, syncing was again paused.  So I enabled it which triggered pushing the deleted folder back to Safari.  I then closed Synkmark making sure the sync icon was yellow and the repeated the process of deleting the bookmark folder and waiting.  This time the folder and contents were deleted from FF and Chrome.  Yay!  I opened Synkmark and this time the sync icon was still yellow.

I've opened and closed the app half a dozen more times and twice syncing it was paused when it was opened even though it was yellow when Synkmark was closed.  The other four times, it was yellow and ready to sync.  I am not sure what I am doing to cause syncing to pause.  Perhaps I am misunderstanding what should be happening.  Any guidance is appreciated.

Click in the main menu: Synkmark > Settings.  In the window that opens, click the tab Syncing.

At the top of the window, note the Delay before starting….  Ensure that you are waiting this long, plus another minute for the syncing to be done, before checking for new bookmarks in the other browsers.

At the bottom of the window, ensure that all three browsers are listed and that all six checkboxes, Import and Export, are switched on.

If the issue is still not resolved, let us know and we shall dig deeper.

To ensure smooth sailing, Synkmark itself and all synced browsers must begin their syncing life with exactly the same collection of bookmarks and folders.  That happy condition is a result of Synkmark's Export to All menu command.  So, be sure that you execute a Export to All after adding Firefox to the list of browsers to be synced, just before quitting Synkmark.  Synkmark should prompt you to do this when you comand it to quit, but make sure you do.

I have decided to try adding Firefox as a browser to sync to recently.  I mainly am using Firefox now but on occasion use Chrome and Safari.  If I make changes in Firefox or Chrome, the changes propagate to the other browsers, but if I make changes in Safari (iOS or desktop) the changes are not transferred to the other browsers.  If I do open Synkmark and export the changes, the bookmarks that were deleted in Safari are seen as missing since they are still in Chrome and Firefox, so they are pushed back to Safari.

Not sure how I should make changes in Safari and have them be replicated to the other browsers.

I had gone through the page before prior to posting but went through it once again.  I made one change in Chrome and waited for a few minutes and the bookmark appeared in Safari.  The Sync log also shows the change.  Perhaps the issue was with Firefox and I didn't pursue a resolution before removing it from the syncing.  I also have misinterpreted the Sync Log, thinking it was showing pending syncs but now I understand it is showing what was synced.

If I decide to add Firefox back into the mix, I will be more diligent when I set it up.  Are there any recommendations to undertake when one has two browswers syncing successfully and wants to add an additional one?

Thank you for posting the report, Gilbert.

Everything looks perfectly normal in the report.   Our agent process (BkmxAgent) is sitting pretty and waiting for bookmarks to be changed in Safari or Chrome.  Surprising that it does not work.  Before we really get into the weeds unnecessarily, please review our Top Reasons for Syncing Trouble and let us know if anything in there clicks with your situation.

Synkmark not syncing automatically anymore
Jan 12th, 2025 at 7:24pm
Print Post
Hello,

I have used Synkmark for several years and find it invaluable.  I sync my bookmarks between Chrome and Safari.  It has been working great and I recently decided to add syncing to Firefox as there are some websites that work better with it.  However, since adding Firefox, the bookmarks stopped automatically syncing.

If I make changes in a browser the changes wouldn't sync.  If I open Synkmark, I can see the list of changes waiting in the Sync Log, but they only propogate if I pause syncing (by clicking on the yellow Syncing button and then reenable syncing by clicking on the red exclamation Syncing button.

I thought the issue might be with Firefox, so I removed Firefox as one of the browsers to sync, but the issue still continues with Chrome and Safari.  When I make changes, they don't sync unless I open Synkmark and pause and reenable syncing.  I must have changed something but not sure what to check.

I am running Synkmark on macOS Sonoma on an M1 Mac mini.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!
